College of Charleston’s Rebecca Wieters Receives SoCon Volleyball Player of the Week Honors

SPARTANBURG, SC ?College of Charleston’s Rebecca Wieters has been named the SoCon Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of September 5.

Wieters, a senior from Goose Creek, SC, helped the Cougars win the UIC Invitational this past weekend in Chicago. Wieters had her strongest performance in leading the Cougars to a 3-1 victory over Denver. In that contest, Wieters contributed 20 kills in helping the Cougars remain unbeaten. Against Bowling Green, Wieters contributed 10 kills and had eight kills in the Cougars’ victory over UIC. For her effortts, Wieters was named to the all-tournament team and also garnered tournament MVP honors.

The College of Charleston will put their unbeaten record on the line this weekend as they travel to Knoxville, Tennessee to compete in the Lady Vol classic. The Cougars will face Central Michigan and Baylor in the two-day tournament.

Other top performers this week were the Appalachian State’s Stephanie Panzer, Furman’s Ally Hock, Georgia Southern’s Iulia Porumbescu, UTC’s Lindsey Galloway, and UNCG’s Hilary Overby.
