SPARTANBURG, SC -- Elon’s Lizz Johnson has been named the Southern Conference’s women’s soccer Player of the Week for September 6.

A goalkeeper from Miami, FL, Johnson led Elon to two ties in the Summit Hospitality Classic in Cary, NC.

During her 220 minutes in goal last week for the Phoenix, Johnson allowed just two goals - one each game - in 1-1 ties with Delaware and Liberty last Friday and Sunday. The freshman garnered 13 saves for the Phoenix, including a penalty-kick stop in overtime last Friday against the Blue Hens.

In her first three games with Elon, Johnson has made 19 saves and has a 0.87 goals against average for the Phoenix.

Other top performers for the week included Chattanooga’s Maya Peel, Furman’s Andre’a Morrison, UNC Greensboro’s Katherine Ryan, Western Carolina’s Casey Davis and Wofford’s Bernie Sikes.
