SPARTANBURG, SC -- Furman’s Brian Martin has been named the Southern Conference’s Men’s Soccer Player of the Week for September 27.

A freshman forward from Milwaukee, WI, Martin netted two goals last weekend in Furman’s first two wins of the 2005 season en route to its second straight Wofford/adidas Invitational crown on the Wofford campus.

Martin tallied both of the Paladins goals in last Sunday’s 2-1 triumph over Cornell. The two goals in the win garnered Martin tournament offensive MVP honors. Teammate Jon Leathers was chosen as the defensive MVP of the tournament.

Furman also placed four more players on the all-tournament team in Kevin Norman, Mark Futrell, Lewis Chaloner and Dominic Cianciarulo.

Other top performers on the week included Appalachian State’s Tatte Parrish, College of Charleston’s Darren Toby, Georgia Southern’s Brandon Makowski, UNC Greensboro’s Henning Jonason and Wofford’s Jesus Arroyo-Peco.
