Georgia Southern’s Iulia Porumbescu selected as Southern Conference Player of the Week
SPARTANBURG, SC ? Georgia Southern’s Iulia Porumbescu has been named Southern Conference Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 26.
Porumbescu, who was also named Player of the Week on Aug.29 and Sept. 12, led the Eagles to two Southern Conference victories this past week. In GSU’s two Southern Conference matches over the weekend, she had 34 kills and 17 digs, including 24 kills against UNC Greensboro last Saturday. For the week, she averaged 5.67 kills per game and 2.83 digs per game.
Georgia Southern will open up its home Southern Conference slate this week as it will host Furman on Oct.1, while Wofford will pay’s a visit to Hanner Fieldhouse on Oct. 2.
Other Top Performers This Week: Brittany Thompson of Wofford (21 kills and 43 digs in two SoCon matches this past weekend), Brittany Zahn of Appalachian State (17 kills and 15 digs against Chattanooga), Stefanie Farris of The Citadel (32 kills and 51 digs in four matches this past week), Hilary Overby of UNC Greensboro (34 kills and 23 digs in three matches) and Lindsey Galloway of Chattanooga (43 kills and 34 digs in three matches).
