SPARTANBURG, SC -- Furman’s Nicky Darling has been named the Southern Conference’s women’s soccer Player of the Week for September 20.

A senior midfielder from Coralville, IA, Darling scored two goals in last Friday’s 2-1 win over Gardner-Webb in the opening round of the Select Kickoff Classic at Stone Stadium on the Furman campus. Darling and the Lady Paladins downed Eastern Kentucky on Sunday, 3-1, to claim the tournament title.

Darling, who netted the game-winning goal in the win over Gardner-Webb, capped off her impressive weekend by being named the tournament MVP.

Other top performers for the week included Davidson’s Kristen Koehrn, UNC Greensboro’s Amy Carnell, Western Carolina’s Emily Pierce and Wofford’s Bernie Sikes.
