Georgia Southern’s Iulia Porumbescu Honored as SoCon Volleyball Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, SC ? Georgia Southern’s Iulia Porumbescu has been named the Southern ConferenceVolleyball Player of the Week for the week of September 12.

Porumbescu , a senior from Bucharest, Romania, helped the Eagles to a 2-1 record in the UAB Invitational this past weekend in Birmingham, AL. In Georgia Southern’s opening match of the tournament against Louisiana-Monroe, Porumbescu tallied a double-double with 14 kills and 20 digs. She registered her eighth double-double of the season in a 3-1 victory over Southeastern Lousiana, as she recorded 21 kills and 19 digs. Porumbescu currenlty leads the SoCon with 176 kills on the season and is fourth in the league in digs, averaging 4.85 per contest

Georgia Southern will stay on the road as it travels to Long Island, NY to participate in the Long Island Invitational. The Eagles will face Bowling Green, Long Island, and Weber State.

Other top performers this week were Stefanie Panzer of Appalachian State, Whitney Purser of Furman, Juliana Martinez of Chattanooga, Jenna Dystra of Davidson, Ellie Talbot of Western Carolina, and Kaitlyn Nortz of UNC Greensboro.
