Von Behren promoted at College of Charleston

Charleston, S.C. -- Seth Von Behren, who has spent the past two seasons as a volunteer assistant baseball coach at the College of Charleston, has been promoted to full-time assistant, it was announced by Cougar Coach John Pawlowski on Tuesday.

Von Behren replaces Rob Reinstetle who was named assistant coach at South Alabama earlier this month. Von Behren, who will continue to work with Charleston's catchers, will serve as hitting instructor and take over the duties as third base coach.

"Coach Seth has done a tremendous job over the last two years for CofC and I am pleased that he will remain with the Cougars on our quest for a third straight SoCon Championship," said Pawlowski. "His work ethic and dedication to our program has not gone unnoticed by the college baseball world. I am thrilled to have him on board with us."

"This is a wonderful opportunity and I?m grateful to Coach Pawlowski for his confidence in my abilities as a coach and as a recruiter," said Von Behren. "Our goal is to continue to build this program and eventually get to Omaha."

Von Behren, who assisted Reinstetle with the Charleston hitters, helped orchestrate the Southern Conference's top offensive team in 2004 and 2005. Charleston led the SoCon and set school records for runs scored (553) and team batting average (.355) in 2005. The Cougars also set SoCon records for most hit by pitches in a season with 122 and most sacrifice bunts with 94 in 2004.

Charleston led the Southern Conference in five different offensive categories this past spring. One season prior, the Cougars had five players reach the 50-RBI plateau for.the first time in school history.

The Cougars finished 2005 ranked by three national polls (22nd by Collegiate Baseball, 24th by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and 25th in the Sports Weekly/ESPN Top 25 Coaches' Poll) and captured the SoCon regular-season title for the second straight season.

In 2005, Charleston claimed its second straight Southern Conference title with a 27-3 league mark and participated in the Clemson Regional. The Cougars also won a school and SoCon-record 48 games, finishing 48-15 after going 47-16 in 2004.

Prior to joining the CofC staff, Von Behren served as the hitting coach and recruiting coordinator while an assistant coach at West Chester University in West Chester, PA. In 2002 West Chester set program records for most runs, hits, doubles, RBI's, and total bases in a season. The team with Von Behren serving as the hitting coach hit .316 for the season.

Von Behren, 26, is a 2001 graduate of Illinois State University and was a four year varsity player. He was named to the 2000 Missouri Valley All-Conference team as a infielder. Von Behren is second all-time in school history in hits and doubles and is in the top 10 in runs, RBI's, putouts and games played.

Von Behren was born in Vandalia, Ill. on September 12, 1978.
