UNC Greensboro sets fall volleyball slate

GREENSBORO, NC - UNC Greensboro women's volleyball coach Shawn Garus has announced his team's 2005 schedule.

The Spartans will open the 2005 season with a trip to Richmond, VA for the VCU Tournament, hosted by Virginia Commonwealth on September 2-3. The Spartans will take on East Tennessee State at 4:30 pm on Friday in the season-opener, before facing Radford and VCU on Saturday.

UNCG's home opener will take place on September 20 when it faces The Citadel in the Spartans? Southern Conference opener. That match will get underway at 7 pm.

The Spartans will place 11 home matches in 2005, including dates with local rivals Elon (September 23) and North Carolina A&T (October 25). UNCG will also hit the road to face backyard rival High Point (September 6) and a return date to Elon (November 1).

Garus, who was hired January 27 after a successful tenure as an assistant coach at Texas Tech and San Francisco, welcomes back five starters from a young 2004 squad that featured just one senior.

Admission to all UNCG volleyball matches is free.
