Horne joins Elon staff

ELON, N.C. -- Elon University women's soccer head coach Chris Webb today announced that Stuart Horne has been hired as the program's assistant coach. Horne comes to Elon after serving as the head women's soccer coach at Chowan College since 2000.

In his time at Chowan, Horne led the Braves to a National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) ranking of third in the country last year. The Braves finished the 2004 season with a 12-6-4 record and Horne claimed NCCAA South Region Coach of the Year honors. The National Soccer Coaches Association of America ranked Chowan as one of the Top-15 NCAA Division III South Region teams in 2004. In his five seasons with the Braves, Horne accumulated 44 victories.

Prior to joining the Chowan staff, Horne served as a head coach at both Amherst High (Amherst, Mass.) for one year and Frontier Regional High (South Deerfield, Mass.) for two seasons.

While coaching high school soccer, Horne was also active at the club level with the Northampton Soccer Club (Girls 14-U), Franklin-Hampshire United (Girls 18-U), and the Amherst Cyclones Premier Soccer Team (Girls 17-U).

Horne has also served as a staff coach at several of the top girls' soccer camps on the East Coast, most notably Charlotte and the University of Massachusetts Advanced Camps. In 2001, Horne was hired as an assistant coach for the Hampton Roads Piranhas, a member of the USL, W-League. Horne helped lead the team to a USL, W-League National Championship in 2003. The Piranhas finished the 2003 campaign 14-0, the first time that a W-League team has finished the season undefeated in USL history. In 2004, he helped guide the Piranhas to a regular season championship but fell early in the national championship playoffs.

Horne also volunteers in the Virginia Beach Professional Development League as a coach. He holds the NSCAA National Diploma and the USSF "D" License.

Horne holds a B.A. degree in political science from the University of Massachusetts - Amherst. He graduated from UMass in the spring of 1997.
