College of Charleston to Face Virginia Tech in NCAA Softball Tournament

Charleston, S.C. - The College of Charleston will travel to the Knoxville, Tenn. regional to face the Virginia Tech Hokies, in the NCAA softball tournament on Friday, May 20th at a time to be announced.

The NCAA originally announced on ESPN News that CofC would face Georgia Tech but the NCAA notified the Cougars later on that they sent the wrong Tech to Knoxville and instead Virginia Tech will be going there.

The Cougars (51-16) clinched the first Southern Conference tournament in school history on Sunday with an 8-7 win over Chattanooga at Patriots Point in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. Virginia Tech (43-23) earned an at large bid after falling to Georgia Tech, 1-0, in the ACC tournament championship game.

The Cougars fell 1-0 to Virginia Tech in a game at the Cougar Classic earlier this season.

The regional will also feature Tennessee (59-13) and Miami of Ohio (33-24). The Cougars fell 4-0 to Tennessee in an early season game in the Charleston Southern Tournament. The Lady Vols finished second in the SEC tournament while the RedHawks claimed the MAC title to earn their first-ever NCAA bid.

The NCAA regional follows a double elimination format, with the Cougars guaranteed a Saturday game against the winner or loser of the Tennessee-Miami of Ohio contest.
