Women's Outdoor Track and Field 4/6/2005 9:37:00 AM Southern Conference Shannon Wommack of Chattanooga Tabbed TIAA-CREF SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week SPARTANBURG, SC -- The Southern Conference today named Chattanooga trackster Shannon Wommack as the TIAA-CREF Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of April 6.Wommack, a junior from Conyers, GA, placed first in the 3000 meter steeplechase at the Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket Invitational on April 2. Her time of 10:29.81 was 38 seconds faster than the second place finisher and qualified her for the NCAA regional, shattering the mark by 23 seconds. Wommack also broke the school record, which she set in the event in 2004 at the SoCon Championships, by nearly 16 seconds. The meet at Georgia Tech featured some of the top track programs in the nation, including Florida State, South Carolina, Georgia and Auburn.In the classroom Wommack carries a 3.75 GPA, majoring in physical therapy.
