Elon Softball Takes Two Games from Charlotte

Charlotte, NC - The Charlotte 49ers softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to instate foe Elon in their final regular season home games of the season. In game one, the 49ers despite recording nine hits lost to Elon, 9-4. In game two, Elon prevailed 1-0 in a pitchers' duel.

In game one, Elon took an early lead when Dani Concepcion led off the game with a home run over the right field wall.

Elon added another run in the second inning when Debbie Ziegler blasted a home run.

The 49ers tied the score when Killough connected on a two-run double to right center field scoring Laurie Roycroft and Karianne Huffstetler.

Elon regained the lead with two runs on three hits in the third inning.

The 49ers cut the Elon lead to one run when Killough connected on a double scoring Beck Holt in the fourth inning.

Then, the 49ers tied the score, 4-4, when J.J. McVay in her final home game leadoff the sixth inning with a solo blast over the left field wall.

Then, in the sixth inning, Elon exploded for four runs on three hits to regain control of the game.

Killough, Lauren Schmitz, and Kaycie Jones each collected two hits in the game. Kristen Bowen recorded 10 strikeouts with only two walks.

In game two, Elon scored the game's only run when Paige Goss scored on Megan Borgaard's double to right center field.

Charlotte's pitcher Christy Murray scattered seven hits with one earned run and four strikeouts in a complete game performance.

Elon will return to action Saturday, April 30 as it hosts Georgia Southern in a double-header at 1:00 p.m.
