Two Terriers inducted into Phi Beta Kappa

At an on-campus ceremony last Thursday, two Terrier student-athletes were part of a class of 28 representing the 64th anniversary of Phi Beta Kappa at Wofford.

Phi Beta Kappa has recognized outstanding students in liberal arts and sciences for more than 200 years. The society was founded at William & Mary in 1776.

Women's soccer player Abby Anderson (Boiling Springs, S.C.) and rifle team member Jennifer Ferguson (Duluth, Ga.) joined the elite honor society.

Anderson, a four-year participant on the soccer field, finished her career with four goals and three assists for 11 points. She scored all four goals as a junior in 2003, tying for the team lead. This past fall, she was nominated for Homecoming queen. Anderson also participated in track & field.

Academically, she carries a 3.81 grade-point average while majoring in psychology. She was a member of a variety of activities on campus, including the Goldtones, Wofford Singers and Show Choir. Anderson also participated in Psychology Kingdom, Wofford STARTS and the Blue Key National Honor Society.

She was awarded the James E. Seegars Jr. Scholarship and is a Dana Scholar.

Since the rifle program became a varsity sport in 2003-04, Ferguson has been a key contributor to the Terriers. The team's MVP in its inaugural campaign, this season she fired 500 or better (out of a possible 600) six times, including a career-best 545 at The Citadel in February. She helped Wofford earn the Southeastern Air Rifle Conference's Most Improved Team award.

Outside the range, she is majoring in biology while boasting a 3.95 grade-point average. A member of the National Dean's List, Ferguson is an Old Main and DeWitt L. Harper Scholar in addition to serving two years as the secretary for the Rotaract Club.

Like Anderson, she is a member of the Blue Key National Honor Society. Ferguson also lists the Beta Beta Beta National Biological Honor Society and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee on her resume.
