Daniel Island, S.C. - College of Charleston volleyball player Kaycie Carr has been awarded the Lindsay Davenport Scholarship from the Family Circle Cup. Carr, a native of Sylvania, Ohio, received the $5,000 scholarship for the 2005-06 academic year and met Davenport at the Family Circle Cup on Wednesday afternoon.

Carr, a co-captain on last year's NCAA tournament team, received the award based on her academic and athletic achievements as well as her involvement in the community. Carr was a first team All-Southern Conference selection along with being named to the 2004 TIAA-CREF Fall Academic All-SoCon team. The junior setter led the conference in assists and was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-South Region Honorable Mention.

"I am honored to receive this award from Lindsay Davenport," said Carr. "The success of the Family Circle Cup and athletes like Lindsay have put women's athletics on the map and helped to promote the same at the collegiate level. Lindsay is a tremendous role-model for female athletes."

Female student-athletes at the College of Charleston applied and Davenport selected Carr for the award.

"I am thrilled for Kaycie to be awarded the 'Lindsay Davenport Scholarship' today," said head volleyball coach Sherry Dunbar. "She is definitely deserving of such an honor because of the things she does above her duties as a student-athlete. The demands placed on our student-athletes today to succeed in all areas are very challenging and Kaycie has surpassed the expectations on every level."

Carr and the Cougars will open the 2005 season with a home match against The Citadel on August 26th at 7:00pm.
