Women's Outdoor Track and Field Southern Conference

SoCon Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for Mar. 30

Men
The Southern Conference today named Steven Kocsis from Chattanooga as the Men's Outdoor Track and Field Performer of the Week for his accomplishments on March 25th at the Stanford Invitational outdoor meet in Palo Alto, CA.

Kocsis, a senior from Princeton, Ontario, won the 5,000 meter run with a time of 14:07.03, breaking the existing school record held by teammate Gediminas Banevicius by over six seconds. His time currently leads the Southern Conference performance rankings in the event by over twelve seconds and qualifies him for the NCAA Mideast Regional meet.

Chattanooga returns to action this weekend as it travels to Atlanta, GA, to compete in the Yellow Jacket Invitational.

Women
The Southern Conference today named Beverly Burnett from Appalachian State as the Women's Outdoor Track and Field Performer of the Week for her accomplishments on March 26th at the Raleigh Relays.

Burnett, a junior from Graham, NC, earned second place in the shot put with a throw of 48' 6". Her mark currently leads the Southern Conference Performance Rankings in the event by over three feet and qualifies her for the NCAA East Regional meet. Burnett is a former state high school champion and record holder from Cumming High School. She is the defending Southern Conference Outdoor champion in the shot put.

Appalachian State will return to action this weekend as it heads to Cullowhee, NC, for the Catamount Classic at Western Carolina University, site of the 2005 Southern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
