Lady Mocs beat Villanova in WNIT

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- The Lady Mocs found redemption Friday night defeating Villanova 50-40 in the first round of the Sportsview.tv WNIT at the McKenzie Arena.

Tiffani Roberson went 6-for-12 on the night and led all scorers with 18 points and had eight rebounds. Katasha Brown made two from beyond the arc and went 4-of-5 from the free throw line racking up 14 points in the contest. Nicole Mattison had a game-high 10 rebounds.

The Lady Mocs (25-5) outrebounded Villanova 46-25 and forced 13 turnovers from a team that leads the nation with just 9.7 turnovers per game. UTC allowed just six offensive rebounds and had 32 defensive boards.

For the second time this season, Chattanooga held an opponent to 13 field goals. It was the fewest by Villanova this year. UTC allowed Washington State just 13 on Nov. 27 in Moraga, Calif. It was also the fewest rebounds by an opponent.

Villanova (19-12) shot a team-low 21.7 percent and had just five treys. The Wildcats went 9-of-15 from the free throw line. Jackie Adamshick led Villanova with 15 points and Liad Suez had 10 points, including two 3-pointers and grabbed six off the glass. Betsy McManus played all 40 minutes and had six rebounds and two assists.

The Lady Mocs will travel to Lexington, Ky., to take on the Kentucky Wildcats on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
