Elon 4, Coastal Carolina 2

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Sebastian Bredberg scored a decisive 7-5, 6-3 victory over Richard Redding at No. 3 singles to lift Elon to a 4-2 nonconference men's tennis triumph over Coastal Carolina Friday afternoon at the Barber Park indoor tennis facility.

The Phoenix (3-8) had captured three of the match's first five singles bouts at the
Jimmy Powell Tennis Center on the Elon campus before rain forced the final individual match indoors, setting the stage for Bredberg's (7-4) heroics. The two teams did not compete in doubles.

Pramote Malasitt (10-1) - the three-time outhern Conference Player of the Week - dispatched Florentin Meynie 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1, Austin Fenn (6-5) defeated Simon Taylor 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2 and Brian Edmundson (2-6) decisioned Andy Caress 7-6 (5), 6-2 at No. 4 for Elon's first three wins.

The Chanticleers (6-6) picked up victories at No. 5 (Ryan Vrba 6-1, 6-2 over Kyle Smialek) and at No. 6 (Brian Dowis 7-5, 6-1 against Alex Garrett).

Elon visits UNC Wilmington at 1 p.m. Saturday for another nonconference encounter. Coastal Carolina returns to Big South Conference action Saturday with an 11 a.m. clash at UNC Asheville.
