Men's Tennis 2/19/2005 11:22:00 AM Southern Conference Southern Conference Men's Tennis Round Up, Feb. 19 Wofford 4, Elon 3The Wofford men's tennis team was victorious in its Southern Conference opener Saturday afternoon, as it defeated Elon, 4-3, in Elon, N.C. The two teams split the six singles matches; however, the Terriers prevailed in two of the three doubles contests to earn the decisive point.In singles action, senior Brett Johnson captured a 6-4, 6-2 win over Wilco Moggre at the No. 2 position. Junior Chris Barlow defeated Sebastian Bredberg, 6-2, 6-1, during the No. 4-seeded match. The final singles triumph for Wofford came at the No. 5 slot, where sophomore Alex Fridzon swept Brian Edmundson, 6-0, 6-0.Johnson teamed with freshman Richard Cahi to give the Terriers an 8-3 victory over Moggre and Bredberg at the No. 2 spot. Barlow also won his double match, with sophomore Jeff Muthig, as the pair handed an 8-5 loss on Edmundson and Kyle Smialek at the No. 3 position.Wofford improves to 2-7 overall and 1-0 in the league with the win. The Phoenix drop to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in the SoCon.The Terriers will play at home for the first time this season Tuesday at 2 p.m. versus Gardner-Webb.
