#7 North Carolina 87, Wofford 50

CHAPEL HILL, NC  - The No. 7 North Carolina women's basketball team remained undefeated with an 87-50 triumph Thursday evening over the visiting Wofford Terriers in Carmichael Auditorium.

Wofford (4-2) displayed a strong effort defensively, forcing 21 turnovers and coming away with 15 steals. The Terriers were also solid from behind the 3-point arc, hitting on a season-best 50.0 percent (10-of-20).

Leading the charge behind the line were juniors K.C. Correll and Mary Jo Yee. Both players nailed three treys, while senior LaToya Strong chipped in with a 2-of-3 effort on her 3-point attempts.

Correll led Wofford with 11 points, while Yee finished with nine. Classmate Jenny Weurding collected a team-high five rebounds.

A quartet of players scored in double figures for the Tar Heels, including a game-high 15 from La'Tangela Atkinson. Alex Miller came off the bench to net 13, while Ivory Latta added 11 and Camille Little posted 10.

North Carolina (9-0) used quick buckets and defense to open up the scoring early in the first half, taking a 10-5 lead into the first media timeout at 15:49. The Tar Heels then went on a 13-3 over the next five-and-a-half minutes to open a 23-10 lead.

The largest margin of the opening period would stand at 20, 45-25, as the teams entered the intermission.

In the second session, UNC's lead swelled to as high as 37, which proved to be the final margin. The 37-point deficit was the slimmest in the three games in which the two teams have played since 2003.

The Terriers will continue their season when they open the Southern Conference slate at 5 p.m. Saturday versus preseason league favorite Chattanooga in Chattanooga, Tenn.
