Led by the third selection for Davidson’s John Latting and three overall first-team honors for the conference, it was announced today that nine men’s soccer players from the Southern Conference were awarded All-South honors from the NSCAA/adidas All-America committee.

Five different SoCon institutions had a player listed among the three teams, with three players from the conference each on the first, second and third squads. Broken down further, eight of the nine players on the teams were first-team All-SoCon.

Latting, a three-time All-SoCon performer for the Wildcats, was named to the first team where he was joined by the UNC Greensboro duo of Scott Jones and reigning two-time SoCon Player of the Year Randi Patterson, who led the league in goals this year with 18. Jones finished first in the conference in the assists category with 14 tabulated on the 2005 season.

The selection to the All-South team is the second straight for Jones and Patterson.

The second team was made up of midfielder Dominic Cianciarulo of Furman, College of Charleston’s Jeremy Gold and 2005 SoCon Freshman of the Year Kiki Willis of Elon.

Willis’ teammate and Elon goalkeeper Taylor Saxe proved to be the one player among the nine not voted first-team All-SoCon, as he was the second team representative due to the first team nod for UNCG goalkeeper Jay Benfield. Saxe was named to the All-South third team where he was joined by Jon Leathers of Furman and College of Charleston’s Keion Yearwood.
