COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON (2-2, 0-1 SoCon): CofC dropped a 72-58 decision at UNC Greensboro on Saturday...The Cougars lost despite outscoring the Spartans 50-44 over the final 27:31 of the game...The Cougars will take 11 days off for exams before hosting North Florida on Dec. 14...CofC has outrebounded its opponent on the offensive glass in each game...Overall, CofC has outrebounded the opposition 89-40 on the offensive glass, an average of 22.3 to 10.0 per game...After missing its first five FT attempts at UNCG, CofC hit 14 of its last 17 opportunities (.824)...CofC has a +21.3 scoring margin and a +16.8 rebounding margin on the year...Dontaye Draper led the Cougars with 17 points and a game-high three steals vs UNCG ... Drew Hall added 11 points and a team-high four assists...Hall was 6-for-6 from the free throw line...Redshirt freshman Marcus Hammond came off the bench and had a career-high 14 points...Draper leads the Cougars averaging 17.5 points per game...Draper is hitting 53.2 percent of his field goal tries (25-of-47)...Drew Hall added 11 points and a team-high four assists versus the Spartans.
CHATTANOOGA (1-5, 0-0 SoCon): The Mocs picked up their first win of the season last Thursday, a 97-60 win over Asbury...UTC was led by Charles Anderson’s career-high 20 points...Anderson was 10-of-12 from the field...Keddric Mays has posted career highs in each of the past two games -- 16 points vs. Middle Tennessee and 17 against Asbury...Chattanooga dropped an 83-76 decision at North Texas on Saturday, despite four players netting double figures in points...Mays led the way with 19 points, while Alphonso Pugh registered a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds...Pugh needs 26 points to reach the 1,000 point plateau...The Mocs host Creighton on Tuesday, the first of three straight at home...They then host Milligan on Dec. 10 and Virginia Intermont on Dec. 15.
THE CITADEL (5-3, 0-0 SoCon): The Citadel recorded its second 126-point outing of the season on Monday against Atlanta Christian in a 126-61 victory...Last week, the Bulldogs tallied 126 against Florida Christian...Seven players reached double digits in points, led by Demetrius Nelson’s 17 points and 10 rebounds...J’Mel Everhart also added a double-double versus ACC with 13 points and 10 boards...All 13 players who saw action scored...The Citadel, which scored 69 points in the first half, drained 14 3-pointers as a team by seven different players...The Bulldogs are idle until Dec. 15, when they host Webber International.
DAVIDSON (3-2, 1-0 SoCon): Davidson has won 25 straight regular-season conference games; Georgia Southern is the last SoCon team to beat the Wildcats during the regular season on Jan. 28, 2004...The ?Cats have also won 10 straight home games going into Wednesday night’s game against Missouri...Head coach Bob McKillop needs four more victories to become the all-time winningest coach in Southern Conference history...Since 1992-93 when Davidson rejoined the league, McKillop has won 240 total games, trailing the co-leaders, Mack McCarthy of Chattanooga and Burt Shipley of Maryland, who won 243 games...McKillop already has more conference wins (145) than any other SoCon coach...The 102 points at Appalachian State marked the first time Davidson had reached triple digits against a Division I opponent since Valentine’s Day of 2000 in a 104-78 triumph over Chattanooga...It was also just the second time in the past 32-plus seasons that the Wildcats had scored 100 points on an opponent’s home floor...Davidson is making 86 percent of its free throws, which is tops in the nation, and hit each of its first 21 foul shots at Appalachian State before missing the final two...Davidson’s Pride of the Program on ESPN will be aired Dec. 13 during the DePaul-Wake Forest game...Thomas Sander posted his first career double-double in the grueling loss at Charlotte, tallying 13 points to go along with a career-high 10 rebounds...He then scored a career-high 16 points at Appalachian State ... Ian Johnson recorded a double-double against the Mountaineers with 15 points and 11 boards, the latter tying a career high...Davidson hosts Missouri on Wednesday, then hosts Catholic on Saturday.
ELON (2-5, 0-0 SoCon): Elon snapped a five-game losing streak on Monday with an 87-63 win over Guilford...Chris Chalko scored a game- and career-high 21 points and added seven rebounds, while Montell Watson and Brett James added 13 points each...James also added 13 rebounds for his first double-double, in addition to adding two blocks and two steals off the bench...In the second half alone, James tallied 10 points and 10 rebounds...The Phoenix outrebounded Guilford 67-32 and recorded 30 offensive caroms...Elon hosts High Point on Wednesday before taking a 10-day break...After the home game with HPU, the Phoenix travels to IUPUI and Butler on Dec. 17 and 19, respectively.
FURMAN (3-3, 0-0 SoCon): In its only game last week, Furman fell to San Diego 80-73...Moussa Diagne scored a career-high 25 points to move past the 600-point plateau for his career...Eric Webb was the only other Paladin to reach double digits with 11...For Webb, it was his fifth double-digit outing in his first six games this season...Gerad Punch had nine points, seven rebounds and four steals off the bench against San Diego...The Paladins are idle until a Dec. 10 game at UNC Asheville.
GEORGIA SOUTHERN (4-4, 0-0 SoCon): The Eagles went 0-2 last week at Missouri State’s Price Cutter Classic...Georgia Southern lost 101-55 to the host Bears, then fell 73-66 to South Florida...Elton Nesbitt had 22 points, three assists, two rebounds and a pair of steals in the third place game against the Bulls...Louis Graham paced the team against MSU with 18 points and six boards...Nesbitt is one steal shy of becoming only the fifth Eagle to reach 150 for his career...Nesbitt is also 30 points away from moving into the top 10 on the program’s career scoring list...GSU’s lone game this week is Saturday at Illinois State, the team’s second game against a school from the Missouri Valley Conference in eight days.
UNC GREENSBORO (4-3, 1-0 SoCon): The Spartans opened up SoCon play last Saturday with a 72-58 win over College of Charleston...Kyle Hines led the UNCG attack with 18 points and 21 rebounds...Hines’ 21 boards are tied for the second most in Division I this season and are also the most by a Spartan since 1973...It was also the most rebounds by a player in Fleming Gym’s 17-year history and only the fifth-ever game of 20-plus rebounds in UNCG annals...Hines also eclipsed the 500-point plateau in his career, the fastest Spartan to do so in the program’s Division I era...Ricky Hickman scored 15 points and connected on eight of nine from the free throw line, while Bart Tooms contributed 11 points, five boards and three blocks versus the Cougars...UNCG travels to East Carolina on Tuesday, then hosts Gardner-Webb on Sunday.
WESTERN CAROLINA (5-5, 0-0 SoCon): Antonio Russell has been Western’s leading scorer in eight of the Catamounts’ 10 games, including a 21 point game in a season-opening win over Bowling Green at the NABC Classic, a career-high 22 points in a win over Atlanta Christian and 20 points in a win over UNC Asheville for his only 20-point games of his short career...He additionally is continuing his hot streak beyond the arc, making 46.9 percent of his 3-pointers (15-of-32) to rank fourth in the SoCon...Russell is currently seventh in the league in scoring at 15.4 ppg...In Western’s 80-64 victory over UNC Asheville this past Saturday, the Catamounts drained a school-record 14 3-pointers on 26 attempts...Corey Muirhead averaged 14.5 points, scoring 11 in a win over Montreat and 18 in a win over UNC Asheville, and 5.5 rebounds, getting five and six respectively...He also had 11 assists with just two turnovers, also getting a then-career high five versus Montreat and a career-high six versus UNC Asheville...The Catamounts face No. 21 Maryland on Tuesday, then travel to East Carolina on Dec. 10.
WOFFORD (3-4, 0-0 SoCon): Wofford posted a 91-46 win over Virginia-Wise at Benjamin Johnson Arena on Saturday, Dec. 3...Wofford made a school-record 18 three-point field goals...Eric Marshall led the way with six treys while Shane Nichols contributed four...Marcus Jackson, Matt Estep and Byron Fields each had a pair of threes...Wofford made 18-of-32 from 3-point range for 56.3 percent ...It was Wofford’s best 3-point shooting night since hitting 56.5 percent (13-of-23) in a 79-77 win at Virginia Tech on Dec. 2, 2002...Wofford was 13-of-27 (.481) from 2-point range against UVA-W...Jackson’s seven points marked the first points of his career...Fields set a personal best by going five of five from the floor...The Terriers made 14 first half field goals, 12 of them 3-pointers ...In fact, Wofford’s first nine baskets were treys...Wofford plays at Clemson on Tuesday, then travels to face Miami (FL) on Saturday.
