#14 Purdue 3, College of Charleston 0

The College of Charleston Cougars had their 24-match win streak snapped by #14 seeded Purdue by the score of 3-0 (30-22, 30-20, 30-28) Saturday in the second round of the 2005 NCAA Volleyball Tournament held at the Dean Smith Center.

With the loss the Cougars end their season with a record of 32-2. Purdue improves to 25-8 on the year and will travel to College Station, Texas for NCAA Regionals on Dec. 9th and 10th.

Tiffany Blum led the Cougars in kills with 15 and Rebecca Wieters finished with 10. Kaycie Carr finished the match with 37 assists and Marie Dobrenz finished with 13 digs, which both led the Cougars.

Purdue's Samantha Mader and Danita Merlau each had 11 kills in the match. Renata Dargan had 38 assists to go along with eight kills on the day.

Purdue started game one in dominant fashion as the Boilermakers jumped out to an early 8-2 lead. At that point the Cougars settled down and played point-for-point with the Boilermakers, but the early 8-2 deficit was too much to overcome as Purdue took game one of the match 30-22.

Game two saw the Cougars start strongly trading points and side-outs back and forth with the Boilermakers. However Purdue's offense was clicking on all cylinders as they won game two of the match 30-20. This marked the first time that Charleston had lost the first two games of a match since Oct. 7th when the Cougars played at Appalachian State.

CofC started game three much the same way they started game two as the two teams swapped point after point. In the end the Boilermakers combination of size and speed was too much for the Cougars to handle as they drop game three of the match 30-28.
