SPARTANBURG, SC -- The Southern Conference has announced the promotion of Doug King to Associate Commissioner for Compliance, Interim Commissioner Geoff Cabe announced today.
King, who is in his third year with the conference office, assists each SoCon institution with its campus compliance program and also administers the league’s NCAA Special Assistance Fund, National Letter of Intent program and the Coaches Certification exam. Moreover, King also serves as liaison between league membership and the NCAA with regards to membership services and enforcement issues. He is also the conference administrator for wrestling, men’s and women’s cross country and men’s golf championships, and serves on the NCAA Progress Toward Degree Waiver Committee.
“This is a well-deserved promotion for Doug,” Cabe said. “He has earned the respect of the league’s members for his work ethic and his attention to detail. We look forward to Doug continuing to be a valuable resource for not only the SoCon office, but for also our membership.”
Prior to coming to the SoCon in February 2003 as Assistant Commissioner, King was the Compliance Coordinator at the University of Houston for two years, the school’s Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance for two years and was also the Director of Football Operations for a year. King, a 1991 graduate of Bentley College, attended graduate school at the University of New Mexico from 1992-95 and also served as the school’s Compliance Assistant from 1997-98.
