SPARTANBURG, SC -- The Southern Conference today named Georgia Southern’s Elton Nesbitt as the Anaconda’s The Rock Player of the Week for games played between December 13-19.

Nesbitt, a 5-9, 165-lb. senior from Deerfield Beach, FL, averaged 27 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.5 steals per game in guiding the Eagles to a pair of wins over Jacksonville and Arkansas State.  The guard opened the week with a 26-point outing in a victory over JU on 9-of-15 shooting, including hitting six 3-pointers.  He then tallied 28 points, three rebounds and three steals in a win at ASU.  Nesbitt connected on all eight free throw attempts against Arkansas State and finished the week 10-of-11 from the charity stripe.

Others considered for the Player of the Week award included Appalachian State’s D.J. Thompson (25 points, six assists and five rebounds in win at Marshall), The Citadel’s J’Mel Everhart (22 points and 11 rebounds in win over Webber International), Davidson’s Ian Johnson (23 points and four rebounds in loss at Syracuse), Furman’s Robby Bostain (averaged 14 points, 8.5 rebounds and 6.0 assists in two games), UNC Greensboro’s Kevin Oleksiak (23.0 points per game in two games, including 31 in win over Greensboro College), Western Carolina’s Antonio Russell (career-high 26 points in win over The Citadel) and Wofford’s Shane Nichols (averaged 19.0 points and 2.0 steals per game).
