The Southern Conference today named Chattanooga guard/forward Alex Anderson as the Baden SoCon Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played between December 13-19. It is the second time this year that Anderson has been named the league’s Player of the Week and the third straight week that a Chattanooga player has earned the nod.

Anderson, a sophomore from Stone Mountain, GA, tallied two double-doubles last week in wins over UNC Asheville and Elon. Anderson, who now has three double-doubles on the season, tied her season-high with 18 points in the win over league foe Elon on Thursday and was the only player on either team in the contest to secure a double-digit output.

The 23 rebounds Anderson garnered last week left her first on the team in the category at an average of 11.5 per game. Anderson is also second on the Lady Mocs in scoring (11.5 ppg) and has swatted a team-high 19 blocked shots.

Others considered for the Player of the Week award included Appalachian State’s Danielle Edwards (15 points ppg, 8.5 rpg, 3.5 steals per game in wins over College of Charleston and Elon), Davidson’s Danielle Hemerka (17 ppg in two games last week, including 16 in SoCon win over UNCG), Elon’s Kitara McMoore (16 points, eight rebounds in loss to Appalachian) and Furman’s Melissa Liebschwager (12 points in win over Davidson).
