Chattanooga 49, Elon 36

ELON, NC - Alex Anderson posted 18 points and 13 rebounds as Chattanooga staved off Elon 49-36 in Southern Conference women's basketball action for its sixth consecutive triumph Friday afternoon at Alumni Gym. The double-double performance marked Anderson's third of the season and second in as many games.

The Lady Mocs (7-3 overall, 2-0 Southern Conference) went on a 23-7 run to trade a 4-0 deficit for a 23-11 advantage on a three-point basket by Nicole Mattison with 1:25 to play in the first half.

Behind 25-13 early in the second stanza, the Phoenix (3-5 overall, 0-1 Southern Conference) used a 10-3 spurt to draw within 28-23 on a free throw by Katie Whidden with 15:21 remaining in the contest.

Chattanooga responded with a 19-8 surge to take control of the game for good at 47-31 on an old-fashioned three-point play by Anderson with 4:05 left.

The Phoenix defense held Katasha Brown - the reigning TIAA-CREF Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week - to eight points and Brooke Hand - the reigning Southern Conference Player of the Week - to six points. Tiffani Roberson scored six points and hauled in nine rebounds for the Lady Mocs.

Robyn Shipley (eight points), Kitara McMoore (six points and nine rebounds), Nikko King (six points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots), Nicole Allison (six points) and Tierra Bumbrey (four steals) led Elon.

The Phoenix outscored the Lady Mocs 24-12 in the paint, but was outscored 21-14 off turnovers and 14-3 in second chance points. Chattanooga fired 29.0 percent from the floor while Elon shot 30.6 percent. The Lady Mocs won the battle of boards 41-38 and forced 24 Phoenix turnovers while committing 19 miscues.
