SPARTANBURG, SC -- The Southern Conference today named UNC Greensboro guard Ricky Hickman as the Anaconda’s The Rock Player of the Week for games played between December 6-12.

Hickman, a 6-3, 175-lb. junior from Kernersville, NC, averaged 22.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.0 steals for the Spartans, who picked up two wins last week. Of Hickman’s 45 points scored last week, 36 of them came in the second half. Hickman started the week with a 24-point performance in a win at East Carolina on 8-of-13 shooting, including 4-of-7 from 3-point range. Fifteen of Hickman’s points came in the final 7:34. Hickman then had 21 points, six rebounds and five steals in the Spartans’ home win over Gardner-Webb. In the second half Hickman responded with 19 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the floor and was 9-of-11 from the free throw line.

Others considered for the Player of the Week award included Appalachian State’s Doug McLaughlin-Williams (21 points and six rebounds against Tennessee), Chattanooga’s Alphonso Pugh (13 ppg, 11 rpg average in two wins), Davidson’s Ian Johnson (18.5 ppg, 7.5 rpg average in two wins) and Georgia Southern’s Elton Nesbitt (23 points in win at Illinois State).
