The Southern Conference today named Chattanooga guard Brooke Hand as the Baden SoCon Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played between December 6-12.

Hand, a sophomore guard from Moulton, AL, scored a career-high and league season-high 27 points in Chattanooga’s 104-58 conference win over Wofford on Saturday, December 10. In her first collegiate start, Hand nabbed four 3-pointers, while shooting 9-for-13 from the field and grabbing a season-best five boards.

The four 3-pointers moved Hand to 10th all-time in the Chattanooga history books in 3-pointers made. Hand has racked up 72 over the course of her career, including a team-best 15 in 2005-06.

Others considered for the Player of the Week award included Appalachian State’s Danielle Edwards (16 points and 16 rebounds in win over Winston-Salem State), Davidson’s Kelly Gassie (16.5 ppg in two games last week, including 18 in win over Greensboro College), Elon’s Kitara McMoore (14 points and 11 rebounds in loss to High Point), Georgia Southern’s Chequilla Jessie (16 points and eight rebounds in win over Centenary), UNC Greensboro’s KaLeah Latham (13 points, seven rebounds and four steals in win over Campbell) and Wofford’s Kelsi Koenig (16 points and five rebounds in loss to Chattanooga).
