DAVIDSON, NC - The National Soccer Coaches Association of America has named Davidson’s Kara Koehrn to its All-Region Third Team following an outstanding senior campaign, during which she led the Wildcats to their first-ever undefeated conference record. Notably, Koehrn is the first women’s soccer player at Davidson to earn an all-region nod.
The senior co-captain from La Mesa, Calif., joined a slew of Atlantic Coast Conference athletes, including five from North Carolina and four from Duke, on this year’s first, second and third all-region teams. Koehrn is the only Southern Conference player to be recognized among the 2005 selections; Furman’s Andre’a Morrison earned a third-team spot last year.
“It’s a tremendous recognition by the region’s coaches for Kara to be selected,” Davidson head coach Greg Ashton said. “She’s one of the best players we’ve had come through our program, and I’m pleased she was honored in this way.”
A four-time all-league pick and the 2005 SoCon Player of the Year, Koehrn led the conference in five scoring categories ? goals (19), goals per game (0.90), points (39), points per game (1.86) and game-winning goals (9). She also ranked ninth in the nation with her goals-per-game average and 16th for points per game. With 19 goals, the forward tied Davidson’s single-season record and matched the career goal record of 39.
Koehrn was the first Wildcat to be named to a Soccer Buzz Elite Feet national team of the week, which she did in October. She also earned SoCon Player of the Week honors twice and became the league’s player of the month. A stellar student as well, the biology major with a 3.48 GPA was recognized as a SoCon TIAA-CREF Student-Athlete of the Week for outstanding performances on the field and in the classroom.
