The SoCon Men’s Regular Season was so close that you could almost flip a coin to decide who would be the regular season winner.

 

Ironically, that is exactly what happened since Davidson (12-5-1, 5-1) and UNC Greensboro finished the season with exactly the same amount of points (15).

 

Alas, there had to be a number one seed and via the coin flip the notch went to Davidson.

 

The designated one, Davidson will square off against Wofford (5-11-2, 1-6) at home on Saturday, Nov. 5 in the first round of the 2005 Southern Conference Men’s Soccer Tournament, which will be contested at the higher-seeded institutions on Saturday, Nov. 5.

 

The Davidson-Wofford game will kick off at 2 p.m. at Alumni Stadium.

 

The No. 2 seeded UNC Greensboro Spartans (12-5, 5-1) will face off against the seventh-seeded Georgia Southern Eagles (7-9-1, 1-6). The match will take place at 7 p.m. at UNCG Soccer Stadium.

 

Elon (8-8-2, 4-2-1), who beat both UNC Greensboro and Davidson on their home field during the regular season, used their victory over the Spartans on the final day of the regular season on Wednesday, Nov. 3 to acquire the third seed in the SoCon Men’s Soccer Championship.

 

The Phoenix will take to the pitch at Rhodes Stadium against the Mountaineers of Appalachian State (7-9-1, 2-4-1) at 7 p.m.

 

One of the more intriguing matches of the first round will be the renewal of the College of Charleston-Furman rivalry.

 

The Paladins (7-7-4, 4-3) and Cougars (9-7-2, 4-3) ended the regular season with the same allotment of points in conference play, but Furman was tabbed as the fourth seed due to their regular season victory over their SoCon and Palmetto State rival.

 

After the matches are seen through to their fruition on Saturday, the Southern Conference Men’s Soccer Championships semifinals and finals will take place at Blackbaud Stadium in Charleston, SC, beginning Friday, November 11.
