The Citadel 126, Florida Christian 43
Charleston, SC ?Guards Mark Schiavoni and Dante Terry combined for 48 points ? more than the entire Florida Christian team ? as The Citadel ran past the Suns, 126-43, in the Bulldogs’ greatest offensive output ever in non-conference action Monday night at McAlister Field House.
With the victory, the Bulldogs improve to 4-2 overall which includes a modest three-game winning streak while Florida Christian falls to 0-12.
The Citadel broke three school records in the process, including most points (126), largest margin of victory (83) and most points in a half (73).
Schiavoni, who finished with a career-high 28 points, and Terry, who finished with 20, were joined in double figures scoring by Donny McLendon with 14, Warren McLendon with 13 and Demetrius Nelson with 10. All but senior Matt Davis scored for The Citadel.
Guard Kenny Backhaus led the Suns with 19 points.
The last time the Bulldogs registered 100 points came in 2002 when The Citadel defeated Western Carolina, 105-97, in a double-overtime game in Cullowhee, NC. Prior to this game, the most the Bulldogs had ever scored was 117 points in the 17-point victory over Chattanooga in 1972.
It also marked the seventh time a Pat Dennis-coached team reached the century mark with the last time coming in that 2002 game at Western Carolina.
Freshman walk-on Chayne Dawley’s three-pointer with 2 minutes remaining gave the Bulldogs a 119-43 lead and broke the school record for most points in a game.
The Citadel raced to a 73-35 first half lead as Terry poured in 18 points and Schiavoni had 14. Together, they were 13-for-19 shooting as the Bulldogs shot 54.5 percent from the floor. The Citadel also dominated the first half boards by a comfortable 33-13 margin as 12 Bulldogs grabbed caroms.
“He (Schiavoni) is a great shooter and he got a lot of open looks,” said Bulldogs coach Pat Dennis. “He is still learning the game, plays hard and he’s earning some playing time.”
The contest was twice tied, at 14-14 and at 17-17, before Backhaus canned a three-pointer to give Florida Christian a brief one-point lead at 20-19 with 11:54 left in the first half. The Citadel battled back to knot the score twice more, at 20-20 and at 23-23, before Schiavoni nailed a three-pointer with 10:37 left to hand the Bulldogs the lead they would not relinquish.
The Citadel hosts Charleston Southern Thursday night while Florida Christian plays at College of Charleston Tuesday night.

Georgia Southern 89, Illinois-Chicago 69
STATESBORO, Ga. ? Georgia Southern had five players score in double figures, leading the Eagles to an 89-69 win over Illinois-Chicago Monday night in Hanner Fieldhouse. The win marks the 14th straight victory in Statesboro for Georgia Southern, the 10th longest home winning streak in the nation.
Georgia Southern (4-2) scored the first five points of the game, starting an 11-5 run to open the contest. UIC (3-3) responded, scoring six unanswered points, tying the game at 11-11 with 15:12 to play in the opening half. The Eagles answered, going on an 11-4 run, sparked by back to back three pointers from Elton Nesbitt. Again, the Flames came back, tying the game at 22-22 with 8:18 to play in the half. The lead would change two more times before Illinois-Chicago saw its first lead of the night, as Othyus Jeffers connected on a jumper with 3:05 on the clock, giving the Flames the 33-31 lead. The lead would switch hands four more times before the half ended, but a layup by Nesbitt with one second on the clock to put the game at a 40-40 tie at the break.
Nesbitt and Justin Bowen led all scorers with 13 each at the break. Illinois-Chicago shot 72.7 percent from the field while the Eagles shot 48.5 percent. Georgia Southern forced 14 UIC turnovers in the opening half.
The Eagles came out of the break on fire, scoring six straight points, including back to back Louis Graham jumpers. Jimmy Tobias’ three pointer at the 18:09 mark put the Eagles up by seven, 49-42, but a pair of free throws by UIC’s Bowen cut the Eagle lead to five, with 17:46 to play. The Eagles extended their lead to 14, 60-46, on another Tobias three with less than 14 minutes remaining in the game. The Flames cut the deficit to 12 on a Bowen jumper at the 10:29 mark, but it was as close as they would get. Georgia Southern rattled off a 13-6 run, including a pair of baskets by Dwayne Foreman, giving the Eagles the 79-60 advantage with under five minutes remaining. UIC did not quit, as they put together an 8-2 rally late in the game. The Eagles sealed the game with a 9-1 run to end the game, giving GSU its 14th straight home victory, 89-69.
Nesbitt led all scorers with 26, including four three pointers. Tobias finished with a season high 13 points, Foreman tied his season high with 10 points, while Donte Gennie added 10 and Will Dunn had 13. Bowen led the Flames with 23 points and 10 rebounds, while Jeffers finished with 13 points and Jovan Stefanov added 10.
The Eagles shot 62.7 percent (37-59) from the field, including a light’s out 80.8 percent in the second half. GSU held UIC to 34.4 percent shooting in the second half, as they finished with 50.0 percent (27-54) on the night. The Flames out rebounded the Eagles, 30-28.
Georgia Southern will travel to Springfield, Missouri this weekend to take part in the Price Cutter Classic on the campus of Missouri State. The Eagles will face host school Missouri State on Friday and will play either South Florida or Texas A&M Corpus Christi on Saturday. Tip-off for Friday’s game is set for 9:05 p.m. EST.

Western Carolina 96, Toccoa Falls 37
Cullowhee, N.C. ? Western Carolina stepped on the gas early for a 27-0 run to start the game then kept the peddle down to defeat Toccoa Falls College, 96-37, Monday night at the Ramsey Activity Center. Freshman Stan Johnson came off the Catamount bench to lead all scorers with 18 points, while David Berghoefer added 17 points and Corey Muirhead made all seven of his shots from the field in scoring 14 points.
On a night when Western Carolina commemorated its own Ronnie Carr making the first 3-point basket 25 years ago (Nov. 29, 1980 in a 77-70 win over Middle Tennessee State), the Catamounts used a strong inside game, making 36-of-51 shots inside the arc, to secure the victory. Post players Johnson, Berghoefer, Muirhead and Jared Outing combined to make 25 shots on their 32 attempts.
The Catamounts (3-5) got an early basket and 3-pointer from Antonio Russell and Berghoefer chipped in seven early points, while Muirhead and Outing each came off the bench to score four points in the first eight minutes. Trey Hopkins, who was seeing his first action four games, capped the 27-0 run with a 3-pointer at the 11:45 mark.
Toccoa Falls (4-7) broke its drought 20 seconds later on a jumper by Jake Jones. The Eagles would cut their deficit to 24 (31-7) on a Robby Blanton layup with 9:04 remaining before the break, but that as is close as the score would get the remainder of the first half. Western answered with a 19-6 run, extending it lead to 37 with 1:54. Toccoa Falls’ Jones tipped in his own miss at the buzzer to make the score 51-20 at the break.
Western built on its first-half led by shooting 70.4 percent (19-of-27) from the field in the second half, while holding the Eagles to just 17 points. Overall, the Catamounts forced 26 turnovers, while committing just 11, while dishing out 20 assists on 41 made baskets.
In addition to Johnson, Berghoefer and Muirhead, Negus McKenna reached double figures for Western, scoring 10 points with five rebounds. Outing, who scored nine points, added six rebounds and a career-high five assists.
The Catamounts did not allow a Toccoa Falls player to score in double figures with Tommy Penland and Ryan Terry each scoring eight points. Terry added six rebounds and two steals.
Western Carolina will return to action Wednesday night to host Montreat. Tipoff is set for 7:00 pm.

IUPUI 82, Elon 70 (OT)
ELON, N.C. ? George Hill put up 22 points and Matt Burks dropped 21 as IUPUI overcame Elon 82-70 in overtime in a non-league men’s basketball contest Monday night at Alumni Gym. The first-ever meeting between the two teams featured 10 ties and 22 lead changes.
The Jaguars (3-2) fashioned a 23-17 lead on a jumper by Brandon Cole with 9:17 remaining in the opening period. The Phoenix (1-3) reeled off the game’s next 10 points, claiming a 27-23 advantage on a pair of free throws by Scottie Rice with 5:59 to play before the break.
IUPUI responded with a 7-3 spurt, taking the lead back at 30-29 on a charity shot by Maushae Byles with three seconds left in the period. Brian Waters drained a three-point basket at the buzzer, granting the Phoenix a 32-30 halftime edge.
The second half saw seven ties and 13 lead changes with neither team seeing a lead greater than three points. Elon snagged its final lead at 62-61 on a three-point bucket by Chris Chalko with 1:29 remaining in regulation.
Burks put the Jaguars back in front at 64-62 on a three-pointer just 12 ticks later. Jackson Atoyebi tied the game at 64-64 on a jumper with 53 seconds left in regulation, ultimately sending the contest into overtime.
With the game-tying bucket, Atoyebi became the 30th member of the Elon 1,000-point club. Entering the evening with 980 career points, he posted his second double-double performance of the season ? the only one of the night ? with season highs of 21 points and 13 rebounds.
IUPUI took the game over early in the overtime period, reeling off the stanza’s first seven points while holding the Phoenix without a field goal for the first two minutes.
David Barlow scored the first points on a lay-up just 22 seconds into the extra period. He later went on to connect on all six of his free throw attempts in the extra frame, putting the game out of reach for the Phoenix.
In addition to Hill and Burks, the Jaguars received key numbers from Barlow (13 points) and Angelo Smith (nine points and nine rebounds), who narrowly missed registering a double-double.
Chalko knocked down a season-high 18 points for Elon, which out-shot the Jaguars 44.4 percent (28-for-63) to 42.6 percent (26-for-61) while outscoring them 40-22 in the paint and 10-4 in fast break points.
IUPUI ended up with edges in points off turnovers (15-12), second chance points (11-5), bench points (15-12), rebounds (40-37), turnovers (8-16) and steals (5-3). The Jaguars fired 85.2 percent (23-for-27) from the charity stripe while the Phoenix finished at 50.0 percent (7-for-14) from the line.
The Phoenix will return to action with a visit to Virginia Commonwealth at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. The Jaguars will next play at Colorado State at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Furman 79, Campbell 78 (OT)
BUIES CREEK, N.C. (AP) -- Furman's Eric Webb scored 15 points, including the decisive free throw in overtime, as the Paladins withstood a Campbell rally to win 79-78 Monday.
Campbell (0-3), which trailed 41-31 at the half, had a chance to win at the end of regulation but Ledell Eackles' 15-foot pull-up from the left baseline bounced off the front of the iron.
Comerlee Poole led Campbell with 20 points and 8 rebounds. Eric Smith had 15 points and Ruell Pringle chipped in 12. Eackles finished with 10 assists.
Campbell went on a 15-4 run to open the second period and take a 46-45 lead with 16:11 remaining.
The teams traded the lead 10 times and tied the score six times in the second half.
Webb hit a 3-pointer from the wing with 1:59 to go to put the Paladins ahead 71-69. Pringle answered with a driving layup to make it 71-71 with 1:23 left.
Pringle missed on a jumper with 31 seconds to go and Webb made one of two foul shots with 15 seconds to go for a two-point edge.
The Camels' Eackles was fouled on a drive to the bucket, but he was able to make just one-of-two shots from the line for what proved to be the final margin.
Furman (3-2) finished the game shooting 57.7 percent from the field and held a 39-31 edge on the glass, but committed 26 turnovers, which Campbell turned into 32 points.
James Madison 81, Appalachian State 79 (2OT)
HARRISONBURG, Va. (AP) -- Jomo Belfor hit a 3-pointer with 44 seconds left in the second overtime to give James Madison an 81-79 win over Appalachian State on Monday night.
Belfor had 19 points for James Madison (2-1), and Juwann James had 20 points and 10 rebounds.
Appalachian State (2-2) stretched a 33-26 halftime lead to 47-36 in the first 6 minutes of the second half. James' dunk brought James Madison to within one with 7:09 remaining. Appalachian State pulled ahead by six with 2:16 left, but James scored six straight to force the game into overtime.
D.J. Thompson scored six in the first overtime, including a 3-pointer at the buzzer to send it to a second overtime. David Cooper's layup put Appalachian State ahead 79-78 with 1:14 remaining. Belfor was fouled on his 3-pointer, but missed the extra point.
Ray Barbosa added 14 points for James Madison, and Daniel Freeman had 13.
Thompson had 31 for Appalachian State, including six 3-pointers. Demetrius Scott scored 17 and Douglass McLaughlin-Williams added 14.
