SPARTANBURG, SC -- The Southern Conference today announced its football Players of the Week for the week of November 19. Furman’s Ingle Martin was named the Offensive Player of the Week honor while The Citadel’s Porter Johnson earned Defensive Player of the Week honors. Wofford’s Dane Romero was named the Freshman of the Week.
Martin, a 6-3, 224-lb. quarterback from Nashville, TN, led the Paladins to a 56-35 win over Chattanooga on Saturday. The senior completed 15-of-17 passes for a career-high 323 yards and two touchdowns in the win. Martin captained a Paladin offense that posted a season-high 662 yards of total offense, the second most in Furman history, including 330 yards rushing and 332 yards passing. Martin also had one punt for 37 yards against the Mocs.
Other top offensive performances from November 19 include Appalachian State’s Kevin Richardson (176 aal-purpose yards, 3 TDs), Chattanooga’s Eldra Buckley (142 yards, 3 TDs), The Citadel’s Nuru Goodrum (175 yards, 32 carries, 2 TDs) and Wofford’s Shiel Wood (104 receiving yards, 1 TD).

Military Classic of the South on Saturday. He recorded a team-high 13 tackles, including six solo stops, and had four tackles for loss for a total of 28 yards. Johnson also added three and a half sacks for a loss of 25 yards and two forced fumbles. He is sixth in the conference averaging 7.8 tackles per game and third among the sack leaders with a total of 6.5.
Other top defensive performances include Appalachian State’s Pierre Banks (7 tackles, 1 TFL), Elon’s Chad Nkang (18 tackles) and Wofford’s Jason Leventis (15 tackles).
Romero, a 6-1, 190-lb. fullback from West Chester, OH, led the Terriers in a 56-42 win over Gardner-Webb. In just his second game at fullback, Romero carried the ball nine times for 110 yards and two touchdowns,

averaging 12.2 yards per carry. With Wofford trailing 42-41, Romero scored his first rushing touchdown and completed a two-point conversion to give the Terriers the lead 49-42 with 2:19 left in the game. He added his second touchdown of the game on a 97-yard run with 20 seconds left to secure the win for Wofford. His 97 yard scamper was the second-longest in school history and the longest by a Terrier since 1958. It was also the third longest run in conference history.
Other top freshmen from last week include The Citadel’s Ben Carnell (11-of-22, 81 yards, 1 TD).
