The Southern Conference had three teams selected to the NCAA I-AA playoffs today, as announced by the NCAA Division I-AA Football Committee. The SoCon was the only conference to have three teams selected to the playoffs.
Appalachian State was selected as the No. 2 seed overall and will host Lafayette in the first round. Furman received an at-large bid and will host Nicholls State on Saturday. The game times for the Appalachian State/Lafayette and Furman/Nicholls State games are still to be determined.
Georgia Southern also received an at-large bid and will travel to No. 4-seeded Texas State on Saturday for a 3:30 kick-off on ESPN2.
All games will be played on Saturday, November 26.
This is the ninth time that the Southern Conference has had three teams selected for the playoffs, and the first time since 2002.
