Two SoCon Women Earn National Honors

Furman's senior forward Andr?a Morrison was named to Top Drawer Soccer's National Team-of-the-Week for her exploits last week and UNC Greensboro’s Amy Carnell was chosen as a member of Soccer Buzz’s National Team-of-the-Week.

Morrison sparked a second half rally in Sunday's regular season finale against UNC Greensboro that saw the Lady Paladins recover from a 3-0 deficit to force overtime and eventually grab a 4-3 victory.

The Kernersville, N.C., native notched Furman's second and third goals in the final 25 minutes of the match to help force the overtime period. With just over six minutes remaining in the second overtime, Morrison got behind the Spartan defense and was taken down in the box by the UNCG keeper to earn a penalty kick. Tara Marker converted the kick to give Furman the dramatic come from behind victory.

Morrison leads Furman with 15 goals and 34 points on the season. The senior has netted a team-leading four game-winning goals this season

Carnell, the reigning SoCon Women’s Soccer Player of the Week, was named to the top 11 in the Soccer Buzz publication after a week that saw her record four goals and five assists.

Carnell notched both of the goals in the Spartans’ 2-0 win over Wofford last Tuesday and then added another goal and a team-high four assists in an 8-1 win over The Citadel.
