UNC Greensboro To Face James Madison In First Round Of NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament

SPARTANBURG, SC -- UNC Greensboro (15-5, 5-1) captured its second Southern Conference Men’s Soccer Tournament Championship with Sunday’s 2-1 win over top-seeded Davidson in the championship match and their efforts landed them a first round home game against James Madison (12-6-2) at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19 at UNCG Soccer Stadium.

 

UNC Greensboro received one the 23 automatic bids to the 2005 NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship via their SoCon title, while the Dukes received one of the 25 at-large bids in the 48-team field out of the Colonial Athletic Association.

 

The winner of the first round game will advance to the second round where they will square off against ACC foe and 12th-seeded Virginia Tech (10-5-4) in Blacksburg, VA, who received a first round bye for being seeded as one of the top 16 teams by the NCAA.

 

The second round game between the winner of the UNC Greensboro-James Madison game will be contested at 6 p.m. in Blacksburg, VA on Nov. 22.

 

The 2005 Men’s College Cup will be held Dec. 9 and 11 in Cary, NC.
