SPARTANBURG, SC ? College of Charleston’s Kaycie Carr has been selected as the Molten Southern Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of October 31.

Carr, a senior setter from Sylvania, OH, helped the Cougars to three victories on the week. Carr, who currently leads the Southern Conference in assists (12.66 apg), earned 41 assists in a 3-0 win over Western Carolina on Saturday. For the week, Carr averaged 12.22 assists per game and recorded 110 assists in three games over that span. She has reached 50 assists or more in six matches this season and needs just 38 assists to reach 1,000 for the season. In addition, Carr also averaged 0.89 aces per contest and had five in the win over Chattanooga

Moreover, Carr was also instrumental defensively. She averaged 4.11 digs per game and had a total of 37 digs in three matches, while also averaging 0.6 blocks per contest. Carr recorded a hitting percentage of .250 and averaged a kill per game in the Cougars’ three victories.

The College of Charleston closes out the regular season with three straight home matches as they look to complete the league slate unscathed. The Cougars’ magic number to claim their second consecutive regular season crown is two. They open the homestand with a battle against Appalachian State on Nov. 4 in Kresse Arena.

Other top performances this week:Dianna Thomas of Appalachian State (Averaged 4.18 kills per game in three matches), Lara Newberry of Chattanooga (recorded 80 digs and averaged 7.27 digs in three matches), Emily Hill of The Citadel ( recorded10 kills and 13 digs in two matches), Iulia Porumbescu of Georgia Southern (recorded 29 kills and 25 digs in two wins for the Eagles on the week), Lauren Richards of UNC Greensboro (totaled 40 kills and hit at a .380 clip in three matches), Krista Neumann of Western Carolina (recorded 23 kills and 21 digs in two matches), and Brittany Thompson of Wofford (averaged 3.4 kills and 3.1 digs per game in two matches).
