SPARTANBURG, SC -- UNC Greensboro midfielder/forward Michael Fitzgerald has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 25, the league announced today.

Fitzgerald, a redshirt junior from Wilmington, NC, tallied three goals last week in wins over High Point and College of Charleston. Fitzgerald racked up two of his three goals on the week in the Spartans’ league win over the Cougars last Saturday. Prior to his offensive output last week, Fitzgerald had just two goals chalked up to his name on the 2005 season.

The win extended UNC Greensboro’s conference unbeaten streak to 12 consecutive games.

Other nominations for the week include Appalachian’s Happy Hall (two goals last week), Elon’s Taylor Saxe (shutout win over Davidson last week), Furman’s Brian Martin (scored and assisted in win over Radford last Sunday) and Wofford’s R.P. Benik (scored first career goal in 1-0 win over High Point last Saturday).
