SPARTANBURG, SC ? Appalachian State’s Stefanie Panzer has been selected as the Molten Southern Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of October 24.

Panzer, a senior middle blocker from Mount Gilead, NC, helped the Mountaineers to three victories on the week. Panzer, who won the honor for the second consecutive week, turned in three solid performances in the friendly confines of the Holmes Center .In Saturday’s 3-0 sweep of Chattanooga, Panzer led the Mountaineers in kills (17) and blocking (two solo, four assists), while contributing 13 kills and three block assists in Friday night’s 3-0 sweep of Western Carolina.

For the week, Panzer averaged 4.3 kills and 2.0 blocks per game. She hit the ball at a .538 clip this week and she continues to lead the league in hitting percentage at .390 on the season. In all, Panzer contributed 39 kills, 10 digs, and 18 total blocks in three matches. She had nine kills and no attack errors on 18 attempts to go with nine blocks in ASU’s 3-0 sweep of Georgia Southern Tuesday, helping the Mountaineers to gain sole possession of second place in the league.

The Mountaineers will be on the road for three straight matches starting this Wednesday as they will face the Davidson Wildcats followed by trips to UNC Greensboro and Elon this weekend.

Other top performances this week:Tiffany Blum of the College of Charleston (averaged 4.8 kills per game and hit at a .419 percent clip in three matches), Liz Williamson of Davidson (recorded 43 kills and 29 digs in helping Davidson to two wins), Iulia Prumbescu of Georgia Southern (averaged 5.7 kills and 3.6 digs per game in three matches), Hillary Overby of UNC Greensboro (recorded 20 kills and 17 digs in a 3-1 loss to Georgia Southern on Saturday), Meredith Harmon of Western Carolina (hit at a .325 clip on over three matches and averaged 3.36 kills per game), and Rhea DeJesus of Wofford (recorded a .348 hitting percentage and contributed 17 digs in two matches over the weekend).
