SPARTANBURG, SC -- UNC Greensboro goalkeeper Jay Benfield has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 18, the league announced today.
Benfield, a senior from Lewisville, NC, posted a 0.00 GAA in 199:57 minutes of action in two contests last week. Benfield made several crucial saves to keep Furman off the scoreboard last Wednesday in a 1-0 double-overtime win over the Paladins before once again keeping a clean slate in a 1-0 win over Big South foe Coastal Carolina last Saturday.
Benfield has not allowed a goal since the Spartans’ game with North Carolina on September 27, a span of 349:57.
Other nominations for the week include Davidson’s Robby Hoak (two goals, including game-winner against College of Charleston), Elon’s Brett Paschall (two goals in win over Georgia Southern), Furman’s Eliot Paschalis (two goals in win over Wofford) and Wofford’s Carter Ladd (one goal and an assist in loss to Appalachian State last week).
