DAVIDSON, NC ? Senior Kara Koehrn scored a pair of goals and added an assist for Davidson in Monday evening’s soccer match to lead the Wildcats to a 3-0 win over visiting Winthrop (7-8-1) and their eighth shutout of the season. With tonight’s victory, Davidson improves to 10-4-1 on the year and extends its unbeaten streak to nine games, tying a program best set by the 1999 squad.

Koehrn, who was tabbed Southern Conference Player of the Week for back-to-back hat tricks in Wildcat wins last week, notched her 13th goal of the year on a corner kick by freshman Mel Smith with 23:24 gone from the game clock. Smith sent the corner into Koehrn inside the box on the near side for a one-touch shot past Eagle goalie Dimitra Poulos.

In the 43rd minute of play, freshman Tiffany Mumby scored her third goal of the season on a ball headed by Koehrn, who received a free-kick pass from sophomore Nancy Haskell. The Wildcats took the 2-0 advantage into the break.

With the majority of the second period left to play, Koehrn netted her second goal of the evening as she raced an Eagle defender one-on-one into the box and scored from about 10 yards out.

Overall, Davidson won the shot contest, 17-7, and took 11 corner kicks to Winthrop’s three. In goal for Davidson, sophomore Bevin English and senior Laura Schulenborg split duties, each taking a half to help record a team shutout.
