College of Charleston downs Jacksonville, 2-1

Mt. Pleasant, SC -- Scott Milroth's goal in the 15th minute proved to be the
clincher as the College of Charleston men's soccer team hung on to defeat
the Jacksonville Dolphins, 2-1 in action this evening at Patriots Point
Field in Mt. Pleasant, SC.

Both Charleston and Jacksonville go to 4-3 on th year.

Charleston dominated the first 20 minutes of play as Tony Myers scored at
th 9:21 mark off the Jeremy Gold assist to give the Cougars the early lead.
Milroth took a cross from Myers at the 15:34 mark and blasted it past the
Dolphin Goalkeeper to take the 2-0 lead with three-fourths of the game still
to play.

Jacksonville kept fighting back, matching shot for shot with the Cougars
but could not convert in the first half and trailed by two at intermission.

The Cougars and Dolphins both had chances in the second half to score but
tremendous saves by both goalkeepers kept the score 2-0. Tyler Stansberry's
shot at 78:35 sailed just over Keith Wiggans' head to give the Dolphins a
goal and cut the margin to one. That would be as close as Jacksonville
would get as Charleston held tight and came away with the victory.

Shots were even on both sides with each team garnering 13. Both
goalkeepers came away with six saves but Charleston held the edge with two
team saves to make it 8-6. Jacksonville totaled more corner kicks 7-3.

Charleston opens Southern Conference action Sunday at 1:00 PM when it takes
on defending Southern Conference tournament Champion Davidson at Patriots
Point. The Cougars fell in the tournament finals last year to the Wildcats,
1-0. Jacksonville goes home to host Florida International Monday, Sept 27th
at the Ashley Sports Complex.
