Women's Outdoor Track and Field 7/28/2004 4:47:00 PM Southern Conference SoCon Women's Track Signings ElonELON, N.C. - Elon University women's track and field coach DeAnne Brooks has announced that Chavanne Hubbard (Somerset, N.J./Franklin HS) has signed a National Letter of Intent to run for the Phoenix during the 2005-06 school year. Hubbard, who runs the 4x400, the 400 hurdles and the 800, was a participant in the 2005 Millrose Games (4x400) as well as a 2005 Penn Relays qualifier (400 hurdles). In 2005, Hubbard posted New Jersey's fourth-best performance in the 400 hurdles which was also the 14th-best outing in the country. Her performance in the 800 was good enough to rate as the eighth-best in the state and the 20th-best in the nation last year. Her 4x400 team posted the second quickest time in the state with a 3:50.00. Hubbard was the sectional champion in the 400 hurdles for three consecutive years and was named Franklin High's 2005 Female Athlete of the Year. She was an first team all-area selection in both cross country and track and field. Chavanne is the daughter of Tony Hubbard. ElonELON, N.C. -- Elon University track and field coach DeAnne Davis Brooks today announced the signings of Kimberly Abel (Marlton, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial HS) and Jessica Weaver (West Chester, Pa./West Chester Henderson HS) to National Letters of Intent. Both signees will participate in both indoor and outdoor track at Elon. Abel holds the Haddonfield High record in both the triple and high jumps. She was a state qualifier in multiple events in both indoor and outdoor track. In 2003, Abel finished fifth in the state in the high jump. She was also on the indoor 4x4 relay state championship team in 2003. Abel was a member of the 4x800 relay team that set a meet record at the Woodbury Relays. She helped lead her team to the 2004 state outdoor title, the 2003 sectional outdoor crown and the 2002 and 2003 state indoor championships. Kimberly participated for coaches Mike Busarello and Samantha Wiley at Haddonfield and is the daughter of Kathy and Rick Abel. Weaver holds the West Chester Henderson record in the indoor 400m and is a two-time champ in both the 200 and 400m at the Chesmont meet. A first-team all-area selection, Weaver was named MVP at the girls' indoor Chester County Championships after setting a meet record in the 400m. She helped lead her 4x400 relay team to a fifth-place finish in the state indoor championships and a third-place finish in the state outdoor AAA championships. Jessica ran for Bill Lott at West Chester Henderson and is the daughter of Jody and David Weaver.
