SPARTANBURG, SC -- The media members who cover Southern Conference football today selected Furman to win the 2004 conference football championship. Earlier in the day, the SoCon football coaches also made Furman the choice to win the crown.
Of the 30 media members who participated in the voting, 13 selected Furman to finish first. The Paladins received a total of 217 points. Defending champion Wofford was picked to finish second with 199 points including 11 first place votes. Georgia Southern received six first place votes and 195 points to finish third.
Appalachian State was selected fourth with 167 points and Western Carolina was picked fifth with 99 points. Rounding out the poll were Chattanooga (86 points) in sixth place, The Citadel (67) in seventh followed by Elon (50) in eighth.
