ETSU's Iglesias Earns Academic All-America honors

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (June 15, 2004) - East Tennessee State University men's tennis player Diego Iglesias (Mar del Plata, Argentina) today was named to the third team of the 2004 CoSIDA University Division Men's At-Large Academic All-America team. He was one of 45 student-athletes that were recognized nationally.

A senior, Iglesias was named to the Academic All-District IV first team based on his athletic and academic performance earlier in the month to appear on the national ballot. This season as co-captain, Iglesias helped to lead the men's tennis team to a first-place finish in the Southern Conference with a perfect 10-0 SoCon record, and a 20-6 record in overall play. The team won the SoCon tournament to earn an NCAA berth, but was defeated in the first round by TCU.

Individually, Iglesias finished the year with a 22-10 overall singles record at No. 3 and recorded an 18-12 record in doubles. For his outstanding performance throughout the season, he was named to the All-SoCon second team in singles and doubles.

Iglesias is majoring in corporate finance with a minor in marketing and holds a cumulative GPA of 3.905.

To be eligible, a student-athletes must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his current institution and be nominated by his sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Division I, Division II, Division III, and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports.
