Elon Announces 2005 Football Schedule

ELON, N.C. -- Elon University Director of Athletics Dr. Alan White and head coach Paul Hamilton today announced the 2005 Elon Phoenix football schedule. The 2005 slate will be highlighted with Elon's first-ever game against a NCAA Division I-A opponent when the Phoenix visits Wake Forest on September 10. Wake Forest and Elon have not met on the gridiron since 1939.

"We are very pleased that our first venture against a Division I-A opponent will be against such a prestigious institution," stated White.

Hamilton added, "I'm really excited about Elon University having the opportunity to play Wake Forest. It's a positive move for our program to compete against ACC schools.

"Having coached with Coach Grobe at Air Force, I know it will be a game that we both look forward to," continued Hamilton.

Elon's non-conference tilts will also include games at Delaware State and at home against Presbyterian and North Carolina A&T.

In Southern Conference action, the Phoenix will play host to Georgia Southern, Chattanooga and Appalachian State. Elon will visit Wofford, Furman, Western Carolina and The Citadel.

"In addition to our always challenging Southern Conference opponents, this schedule will present us with great opportunities for a successful season," stated Hamilton.

Said White, "We are very pleased with this schedule. I'm delighted that we are able to have this schedule finalized a year in advance."
