NCAA OUTDOOR TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS DAY ONE SUSPENDED WEDNESDAY DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER

AUSTIN, Texas -- Chattanooga distance runners Shannon
Wommack and Steven Kocsis will have to wait another
day for the rain to go away. Due to inclement weather
in Austin, Texas, all running events at the NCAA
Outdoor Track and Field Championships - excluding the
women's 4x100m relay - have been postponed. Both
runners were scheduled to compete late in the evening
Wednesday in the men's and women's 5000m
preliminaries.

Wommack, a sophomore from Conyers, Ga., earned an
automatic bid to the championships with a fourth-place
finish at the NCAA Mid-East Regionals. She shattered a
school record in the event by more than 30 seconds at
the Stanford Invitational in March to earn a spot in
the regional. She bested that mark by two seconds in
Baton Rouge, La., in her championship-qualifying run
with a time of 16:26.58. She became just the
fourth-ever track athlete from UTC to qualify for the
Nationals.

Kocsis, a junior from Princeton, Ontario, had to wait
a little longer to learn that his region mark 14:27.81
placed him 27th in the nation and earned him an
at-large bid to the show. He is the first male track
athlete from UTC to qualify for the championships and
the fifth overall.

The top five times from each of the four regions are
automatically qualified for the championships and then
the top eight times nation-wide are granted at-large bids.
