Georgia Southern Signs Three Track Athletes

STATESBORO, Ga. - Three high school student-athletes have signed
national letters-of-intent to attend and compete in the track and field
program at Georgia Southern University, head women's coach Todd Lane
announced Thursday.

Sprinter Eleshia Crum from Woodbine, Ga., sprinter Alden Acker from
Blue Ridge, Ga., and sprinter/jumper Tonya Grimes from Greensboro, Ga.,
have all joined the Eagle program and will enroll at GSU in the fall.

"We are always excited about incoming individuals and what they will
bring to our program," said Lane, who recently earned his second
consecutive Southern Conference Coach-of-the-Year honor. "We feel
fortunate that Eleshia, Alden, and Tonya will be continuing their
educational and athletic careers at Georgia Southern. All three have
excelled as students and as athletes in their respective events and we
look forward to the opportunity of working with them in reaching their
goals."

Crum, who was an eighth-place finisher in the 400m at the Class 5-A
State Championship Meet last season for Camden County High School, is a
2004 state qualifier in the 200m event. She currently holds personal
records of 56.6 in the 400m and 24.8 in the 200m.

Acker was a fourth-place finisher in the 400m event and earned a
fifth-place standing in the 800m competition at the Class 3-A State
Championship Meet for Fannin County High School last season. She has
established personal records of 2:19 in the 800m and 57.9 in the 400m
and earned additional letters as a key member of FCHS's state finalist
basketball squad.

Grimes is a 2004 state qualifier in the 100m, long jump and high jump
events for Greene County High School. During last season's Class 2-A
State Championship Meet, she turned in a second-place finish in the long
jump, a fifth-place standing in the 100m and a seventh-place showing in
the 200m. Grimes' personal bests include a long jump of 18'-5" and a
high jump of 5'-4".

The Eagles, who recorded their second straight runner-up finish at the
Southern Conference Championships May 1-2, will close out their regular
season schedule May 14-15 at the Georgia Tech Invitational
