SoCon Lands Two In NCAA Baseball Regionals

The College of Charleston baseball team was selected to the 2004 NCAA Tournament announced on Monday. The Cougars will play Southern Mississippi in the regional hosted by LSU in Baton Rouge, La. at 7:30 Eastern Standard time on Friday.

The Cougars are 45-14 on the season and the Southern Conference regular season champions at 25-5 in league play. It is the first ever appearance for Charleston in the NCAA Tournament baseball program.

Charleston is the third seed in the region taking on the second seeded Golden Eagles. The host school and top seeded LSU takes on fourth seeded Army in the other first round matchup.

The regional is a double-elimination tournament between the four teams with the winner advancing to the Super Regional. Sites for the Super Regionals will be announced next week.

The Citadel will play in the Columbia, SC regional along with host South Carolina, East Carolina and North Carolina. The Bulldogs will open play against the Gamecocks.
