SoCon Media Names All-Conference Team

SPARTANBURG, SC -- The Southern Conference Sports Media Association today named its all-conference team. The coaches selected Caleb Moore of East Tennessee State as the Player of the Year and Ryan Johnson of the College of Charleston and Jonathan Ellis of The Citadel as co-Pitchers of the Year. College of Charleston head coach John Pawlowski was named the Coach of the Year and UNCG shortstop Danny Valencia was the SoCon Freshman of the Year.

Moore is the top hitter in the Southern Conference and also the national leader in batting average and doubles.

Johnson went 12-0 this season in 12 regular season appearances. He has a 23-3 career mark in two full seasons with the Cougars. Ellis is the SoCon ERA leader at 2.36 ERA and has a 10-3 record while leading the conference with two shutouts and seven complete games.

Pawlowski was named the Coach of the Year after leading the College of Charleston to a school record 42 wins and a Southern Conference record 25 league victories.

Valencia was named the Freshman of the Year after hitting .341 with eight home runs and 35 RBI in the regular season. The freshman from Miami led the club in home runs, doubles, hits and total bases.
