Citadel's 4x100 Team Wins Gold At Penn Relays

Philadelphia, PA - The men's 4x100 Intrepid Relay Squad clenched the gold medal for the fourth year in a row at the 110th Penn Relays Carnival this past weekend. The team completed the event in 41.76, a record for this season, on Franklin Field located on the University of Pennsylvania's campus.

"This is such a great experience for these guys to compete in the biggest track meet on the East coast," stated head coach Jody Huddleston. "It was also our fastest time of the year so far and we are hoping to improve at this weekend's SoCon championships at Appalachian State."

The Citadel did not have the fastest time going into the meet, VMI won their conference last weekend with a time of 40.58 and Navy regularly runs this event under 41.5. Three freshmen compiled the squad and Huddleston did not know exactly how these young men would handle the carnival like atmosphere.

"I really think that senior Marcus Cohen was a very calming influence on these freshmen," remarked Huddleston. Marcus was a member of the 2002 team that won, but was injured last year and was an alternate. The freshman trio of Quintin Wright, Cameron Easley and Thomas Pressley were so excited and seeing their faces when they received their gold Penn Relay watches was well worth the trip."

The men travel to Boone, NC May 1-2 to participate in the Southern Conference Outdoor Championships. Events are slated to begin at 8:00 AM.
